CFD weighs in on “safe distances”

"Our breath comes out white clouds"

The images used in this preprint are similar to those here, but there’s one critical difference: the grids used. The reported results are interesting: but are they “correct”? The models cited in the safe-distance study are fairly small, so it’s much easier to verify the impact of the grid on the results than to verify the results themselves. That’s CFD.

Hyperlinks in the message window

"print selection links to XYZ points, entities, and files"

One of the characteristics of CFD is the large number of entities that have to be managed. Pointwise tries to make it easier for you to work the way you want: you can select items either from the GUI or from several possible text-displays. As outlined herehere and here, your Glyph scripts can now use the messages-window to create hyperlinks to different entities. This short video shows just why this is an important addition to Pointwise.

Load Custom File-formats

"general, portable, and extensible standard"

Despite the availabilty of “standards”, CFD results formats, unfortunately, proliferate. Tecplot, fortunately, reads most of them. But if you do encounter a format that’s not supported, you don’t necessarily need to wait for it to be added by Tecplot’s developers. As explained in this 40 minute video, you can (fairly) easily create your own data-loader.
